Case Files of Faces

Collecting books with faces on their covers has long been one branch of my personal library, and this project grew out of that ongoing fascination. Every image in this series is drawn from an actual book—some are already in my collection, while others remain books I am still searching for.

Each work begins by mechanically reproducing the face printed on a book cover in graphite. From there, I imagine and draw the unseen side of the face, creating a profile that never existed. The result is a dossier for each book, resembling the composite portraits found in criminal investigations.

The format of the "wanted poster" is borrowed from a work by Marcel Duchamp, who famously created a wanted notice using his own photograph.

Printing:
The cover is repurposed from an authentic archival case file folder. Interior pages are digitally printed in color on engineering blueprint paper.
